Beginning February 18th, I am hosting a Dresden Sampler Quilt Along. Want to join in?
My love affair with dresden blocks just keeps growing and I am determined to have a dresden quilt for Spring! Susan Marth wrote Dresden Quilt Workshop and using pieces from each of the 13 quilts in her her book also created a sampler quilt. She just wrapped up her own sew along and has great tips and techniques on her website. She also has a Facebook group that’s an open group to join.
I missed out on Susan’s sew along so I’m doing my own! I’m going to be pointing back to her blog and referencing her suggestions often. No need to reinvent the wheel here, people. I’m just telling you up front that I may be the cheerleader of this sew along but she was the teacher!
Dresden Sampler Quilt Along
If you’d like to sew along, you’ll need Susan’s book, Dresden Quilt Workshop and her two dresden plate templates. I have a few in my shop. I am going to go full-on stash with a Jen Kingwell look (I have wanted to do a really colorful quilt that has the addition of black and low volume for too long). This quilt is going to be a lot of my loves rolled up into one!
Quilt Details
The finished quilt finishes at 62″ x 62″. Here are the supplies that Susan mentions to help you consider what’s needed:
- 10 fat 1/4’s & 40 fat 1/8’s for the quilt top (approx. 8 1/2 yds.)
- 1/4 yd. for “Quilts” letters
- 1/2 yd. for binding
- 1/2 yd. fusible web
I’m going to be using Superior Charlotte’s Fusible Web thread to attach my dresdens onto their backgrounds. This works like magic, guys and you’re gonna love it! I’ll be posting a video/tutorial later showing how it’s used, if you haven’t already discovered it.

Hope you’ll plan on joining in as I get ready for my Spring Dresden Sampler Quilt Along. It’s going to be challenging and fun!
I love quilts! I recently bought a few pillows made from the Dresden pattern from antique quilts. They are beautiful. My goal is to learn to quilt, hopefully, this year!
Wendy, jump in! I’ll help if you ever have any questions about quilting; just ask. Do you have a pattern that has caught your eye?
How beautiful! I will…color along with you! 😂
Katie, you crack me up! Make sure to share your coloring sheet 🙂
Sampler quilts are fun and keep the interest going. This one is lovely.
I agree, Kyn. Sampler quilts are some of my favorites!
I wish I would have paid more attention when my grandma tried to teach me to quilt! Absolutely beautiful! Such an art!
Angela, you can learn and be the teacher to your babes!
So pretty and interesting! I hope you reach your goal of having it complete by Spring! Blessings to you!
Thank you, Jenn!
This quilt is so gorgeous!! I would love to do something like this someday! I’ve actually been following a lady on Instagram who uses granny squares like quilt blocks and the results are so gorgeous.
What a lovely quilt❣️
Sometimes I wish I could quilt! Looks like a fun pattern!
that is so pretty! And what a fun idea!
I’m either joining in, or making my sister do it for me. haha! She’s made me a baby quilt with each newborn we’ve had, but this is beautiful! I want to find time to quilt! I mean quilt well, you should see some of my attempts. Though, at least I’m not scared to try something new.
Dana, IF you like the fabrics I choose, I will happily gift you the one I’m making. Though, you have to have a girl, cause the fabrics are gonna be totally girly! I’m not even kidding; it’s a fine line between hoarder and quilt owner 🙂
