I can barely believe it’s taken 9 weeks to get to the finish line but here I am! The Dresden Sampler quilt top is complete and this week I’ll be quilting!
Dresden Sampler
The quilt top I finished is miles from the original plan but I am quite happy with the changes made. I learned a lot of new techniques and realized that this was my first completely scrappy quilt. I pulled tons of Riley Blake fabrics from my shelf and just got to work. I’ve made several quilts now where I combine lines from designers and it’s really my preference. I’d gotten into a rut of using only Bonnie and Camille fabrics from their most recently released line. To be honest, it kinda got boring. I guess not boring but I needed to embrace my inner granny and use what I had all mixed together!
I added elements like Prairie Points:
and sewed my blocks into quadrants before sewing the quadrants together to complete the top:
This week, I’ll get it quilted and bound. Ten weeks, start to finish. That is far too long in my opinion but life happens and I don’t like to rush through the process. I want to enjoy learning and trying new things. Imagine how much longer it would have taken without a sewing machine! Gasp!!
Feeling Blue Quilt
After the commitment of the Dresden Sampler, I needed something a little less intensive. A strip quilt was just the answer! Using an assortment of stash fabrics with blue as my main color, I added in red, grey, black and a few brown prints (plus a few low volume prints that have blue in them). Bella Solids in Grey is the separating color. I cut different widths and lengths of all of the fabrics and got to work. It’s fun to not have a pattern to follow and just cut pretty fabrics into strips and sew. Mindless sewing is what I need right now. I’ll show an update as I get closer to completion.
Have fun sewing!
