Sampler Paper Piecing Quilt
Every Tuesday, beginning today, I will be blogging about a new Paper Piecing project I’ve started. Instagram is such a source of inspiration and a few years ago, an Instagram quilter created the most beautiful paper pieced quilt with 12″ blocks. It’s been on my mind ever since and though paper piecing intimidates the heck out of me, I am determined to keep pushing myself and learning new skills!
Each week, I’ll post the patterns or link to patterns. Maybe I’ll inspire someone out there to try something that scares them a little. That’s how we grow ~ by putting ourselves on the line and being willing to fail.
LeMoyne Star Paper Pieced Variation
I’m not sure why I chose this LeMoyne Star variation as a good place to start my paper piecing adventure but I DID IT!
Lessons I learned:
- Go slowly!
- Set aside time where you’ll be able to focus (at least at the beginning)
- I’ve heard it takes about 10 minutes per segment of each block so depending upon how many segments your block has, it could take an hour to complete 1 block!
- Patience is key with paper piecing!
- It’s important to strengthen your stitches (since you’ll be ripping paper away later on) by starting and stopping your sewing beyond your sew lines.
- Use Foundation Paper rather than regular copy paper ~ it’s easier to remove without ripping your stitch lines.

Holy Moly, this looks so hard! I would have everything cut and pieced together wrong! Such an art and so talented!
