There’s something about Spring that makes me want to get my house in order. Freshen it up and get it all clean. Are you the same way?
Let’s face it ~ Cleaning isn’t fun
I don’t like to be overwhelmed and I start to feel that way when I think about cleaning my whole house. To help myself, I created a few checklists that help me check (see what I did there) off items that I know I want to clean. They help me realize that while the list looks daunting, I can finish the whole house in a few days if I just pick an area to work on and stay there with NO distractions until it is done!
Professional Cleaning Lady ~ Not Me
My house isn’t perfect ~ and that’s ok with me. I’ve never wanted to have a professional cleaner in my house ’cause I just find that weird. One of my friends is actually home while her cleaning lady is there cleaning. I know myself too well, and I’d just feel guilty that I wasn’t helping, you know, clean my own house, so I’d end up cleaning alongside the person I was paying!
On the other hand, I like a clean home. There are a few steps I follow that help keep our home in order:
- Assign the kids responsibilities: Sonny Boy does toilets, wipes kitchen cabinets down and dusting; Beautiful Girl does sinks and mirrors and wipes down the refrigerator shelves. These chores are done weekly.
- All papers and clutter are picked up before bed
- Kitchen is cleaned nightly before bed
- Floors are swept (we have 4 dogs) each morning
- Dishwasher is cleaned out by kids before leaving for school so I may fill it rather than having dishes pile up
Spring Cleaning is a Fresh Start
Spring Cleaning is a little different than normal household cleaning. It allows for a fresh start for my home. Personally, I want to shed the heavier clothing I’ve worn during winter and I want to offer my home the same feeling. Shed the winter greys and bring in color! Open the windows and bring in fresh air. Are you the same way?
That’s why Spring Cleaning is so important to me. It allows me a focused way to refresh and restart our home before the crazy of summer activities begins.
If I was wise, I would combine my Spring Cleaning this year with a declutter project and kill two birds with one stone (what an awful saying, by the way). I would love to have a clean house AND a house filled with less. Less of what we don’t use. Fewer “things” that someone else might actually appreciate. Less. Just. Less!
Spring Cleaning Check Lists
The Over/Under Cleaning Checklist
If you’re tackling your Spring cleaning, I pray that these checklists will help you as much as they help me! Print ’em off and get to work! Then we can enjoy the lovely weather outside (has your winter felt like it has lasted forever and ever??)! I’ll be back next week with my Spring garden planting plans. It’s such a fun time of year.

I can COMPLETELY relate to feeling guilty while a housekeeper cleans my house!! I’ve actually been in that situation a couple times when my mom treated me to a clean house when I was busy with a baby, and it made me uncomfortable. Thank you for sharing this!!
