Week of Peace
Peace
As Christians, we have the opportunity to hold on to God’s promise of peace both in our own lives as well as when we interact with others. Knowing whose you are (God’s precious child) is the perfect reason to be secure in knowing nothing in this world can steal your peace (except when you give it back; don’t do that!). Satan is constantly at work to create separation between us and the Lord. Part of his efforts center on our peace-filled attitude.
In Romans 12:18, Paul writes “If possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Friends, do not avenge yourselves; instead, leave room for God’s wrath, because it is written, Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay,” says the Lord. But, If you enemy is hungry, feed him. If he is thirsty, give him something to drink. For in so doing you will be heaping fiery coals on his head. Do not be conquered by evil, but conquer evil with good.”
Be an Example
Are you the one tapping your toe when you’ve waited too long in a line? Remember that angry driver weaving in and out of traffic because everyone else is “too slow?” Was that you? What about the diner waiting for your check from your waitress who “hasn’t checked on us for 15 minutes!” Each of these daily experiences can rob us of our peace OR we can be an example of Christ’s light and shine our peace on others.
Advent Activity for Day 9
Read Zechariah 6:12-13. Light the second candle of your Advent wreath. Pray for peace for your mind, soul and family. Share an example of when God’s peace came over you this week or maybe when you needed His peace to have guided you.
