Do you remember the episode of Friends where Ross is moving a large sofa into his apartment with Rachel’s and Chandler’s help, and Ross keeps yelling at them to “Pivot?”
I feel like Ross! It’s time to re-evaluate and make changes. Pivoting isn’t such a bad thing. Admitting that you’re on a path that may no longer be the one God has intended for you is not a bad thing.
Quilting was something I discovered so that I could teach my homeschooling daughter Home Economics. She never loved it but I fell in love with all of the beautiful fabrics created by designers like Bonnie and Camille, April Rosenthal, Corey Yoder, Lori Holt… That led to “let’s open a small online shop selling fabrics and teach the economic side of business to the kids.” Yeah, they didn’t fall in love with those lessons either, though they did learn how to create a website, budget for inventory, setting prices and scheduling.
Yellow Rose Jenny has…
been successful, fun, stressful, delightful, frustrating. You name it, I have felt it.
But, it also has been a source of thievery, in that I am a one-woman show. Being busy means I am often overwhelmed with filling orders, and no longer have time to enjoy the quilting side of things. Once upon a time I even wrote a quilt pattern but haven’t had time for that pursuit in awhile, hmmmm.
2022 is gonna be the year that I seek peace and simple. I’m going to start blogging again (is that even a thing that people do or read anymore?) and baking! Shelter still need donations and I want to be one who brings joy to those in need of it! I want to actually look into the eyes of those I serve and smile while they receive something that makes them feel loved.
I don’t really get those experiences by being an online shop owner. And since I didn’t start this gig as a way to make money, I feel like it is no longer what God intends for me. I’m going to put my shop on pause for awhile and see how things go.
Simple Days
Steps I intend on employing in seeking the slow down, simple days:
There you go. My days should be filled with napping, reading my Bible and baking. Maybe throw in a quilt per month, a blog post a week (about Bibles, baking or quilting) and I’ll be one happy mama!
What does your 2022 look like? Are you being intentional in your planning?
